What is the extent of J.K. Rowling's philanthropic work?
She's done wonders for getting children interested in reading. She supports several charities (see Look to the Stars). She does readings for causes (though one can argue that such evens are as much for publicity as for the benefit of others). Still for someone who's regularly written up as earning money at a record-breaking rate, is there more giving that's not getting press? I sure hope so.
I genuinely respect anonymous giving. It is the highest form and all that, but the absence of clear concern for the world from such a public figure - one who's wealth is derived primarily from children - is troubling.
